New computer has Windows XP Proffesional Service Pack 1
currenly loaded as operating system. Three problems are
reoccurring.

1. Will have sound for first few moments and then will
lose it once I attempt to play a game. Nothing is
indicated as being incorrect in setup or in my system
settings.

2. Computer will restart sparadicly on its own and I have
recieved no error messages or indications that system
settings are inccorect.

3. Computer will on occasion lock up on me.

Have attempted to locate Scandisk thinking that files may
have been corrupte at some point but am unable to locate
this tool. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

start cpu with xp disk in. select repair. get back to me.
If it is not bad install could be sobig virus?

Scandisk is now chkdsk. Open My Computer » right click on the drive » select properties » Tools » click Check Now.

3. Is the RAM seated properly?

SNAFU, I suspect a heat/ power problem for the reboots.

Some games may reset sound settings, check the FAQs for the
games you play.

If this is a new machine and does not work correctly, I suggest it go
straight back for replacement. Don't do anything they could construe as
voiding your warranty
