My ftp connects to the host but my password is rejected. I've tried
removing firewall, done a virus check etc, changed my password and spent
time with the help at my isp. Still won't accept my password. Is vista to
blame and if so how do I get out of it?

Vista is not to blame. There is no problem using FTP clients in Vista. You
are doing something wrong. No one reading about this can help you with so
little information.

Things to try:

1. Use a different FTP program. FileZilla is good and it is free.
Double-check the FTP information you are entering. Usually the site address
will be like ftp.mysite.com

Check your username/password. For instance, my username/password for my FTP
site is completely different from the one I have for the Internet
connection and email.

2. If you want to try and get help from the newsgroup, quote the exact text
of any error messages you get.

3. Make sure you have allowed FTP traffic in whatever firewall you're using.
If using a third-party security program such as McAfee or Norton, uninstall
it (those products are garbage) and replace with a better antivirus. NOD32,
Kaspersky, or even Avast free are recommended in conjunction with the
built-in Windows Firewall.

What ftp program are you using?
UAC on or off?
Maybe you have a bad keyboard, or the capslock is on?

I use CuteFTP with no problems, but it does require UAC approval.
