ftp hangs; works fine when I go through VPN

Before installing Windows XP sp2, I could access my websites using IE 6 ftp
protocol.
Now it hangs the program. IE does not respond.....I need to shut down IE. It
works fine for everything else.
I see others have similar problems.

I use a VPN client from work. When I go in through that, IE gets to my
sites. Why does that work?

Any suggestions what's going on? I use McAfee Security Center. Is that
what's causing this?
 
In IE go to Tools...Internet Options...Advanced and toggle the check besides
"Enable folder view for FTP sites", click Apply, click Okay.
