FTP disconnecting on file listing

Whenever I try to download a file from an FTP server, I get disconnected
when I try to get a file listing. I can connect, login, and even change
directories, but when I try to get a file listing or download a file, I get
the message, "disconnected by server". I have tried this on several
servers.

Hello,

If you have (wisely) activated the Windows XP firewall (or maybe another
firewall), you need to set passive mode in your FTP settings (WSFTP,
FTPExpert, or for Internet Explorer Internet Options, advanced,
Navigation, Use passive FTP mode).
On the command line interface FTP program, you need to type "PASSIVE"
before attempting any "dir" or "ls".

hope it helps.

bye
