FSMO recovery

I lost my 1st DC last week, it was an OLD Dell who got
tired. It has been a bad experience since then.

I wondered if there was a was to re-establish the the
server from backup tapes and bring it to ON-LINE DC
status? So far, after a restore, this DC fails to update
and return to normal operations state.

I see the DIT and OM services are still on this original
system and do not want to abandon it.

ALL help appreciated.
