frozen start button

I have on several occasions been unable to click on the
start button. I can place the mouse on it but when I
click on it nothing happens. The same thing happens with
the icons in the system tray. I can open icon on the
desktop. I must reboot one or more time to clear this
problem. Any thoughts about a virus??

At least for the Start button... What does the Winkey (flag key), next to
alt on both sides of spacebar, do ? If this does it, there is at least one
work-around. Have no ideas on Systray problem.
