Frozen Cursor

I am running XP Home. I was working in a Word document when my wireless
mouse stopped operating, I thought I needed to plug it into the tower to
recharge, but this didn't help. I realised my cursor was frozen.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver in case of corruption.
When I did this and replugged my mouse into the USB Windows did not say
anything about finding or recognizing the device.

I tried a system restore.

I am about to run anti spyware now, but having done my weekly clean up only
last night I don't think this is the problem.

Any other ideas please. My mouse is showing the red light underneath so it
looks like it is working.

TIA

Attach a ps/2 or usb mouse to see if the mouse itself is the problem.
Make sure you shut the computer down before plugging in a ps/2 mouse.
Then report back with results.

Yes I had already attached a PS2 mouse successfully after posting my
message. Does that mean it's the mouse?
Thanks B.W.

Yes, probably. Replace it.

Did you try resetting the mouse and its station? There should be a
button on each device that you press so they will search for an open
frequency.

This is what I didn't understand, you have a wireless keyboard and mouse,
there's a control that the keyboard seems to be relaying to as the lights
flash every a key is pressed, does the mouse use this control as well? In
my mouse there are two batteries but when the power runs down you plug it
back into the PC to boot up. Is this control the station and do both items
use it to relay to the PC?

I looked under the mouse and all I can see is a soft rubber button with
connect written by it, would this be the reset button, I will try it out
when I shut down the PC next. One more thing to try, thanks
