FrontPage Website Templates

Greg

Hello,

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm just starting a website
and thought I'd be ahead of the game by buying a website Template that I
could then modify with my copy of FrontPage 2003. Are there sites that you
would recommend for FrontPage Website Templates? I'm looking in the range
of $35-$75.00 for a nine to fourteen page website.

Thanks.

there are a zillion of them...do a google for frontpage templates
they range anywhere from 5 bucks to 300, the average being in the 30-50 buck range.

I'd visit a few. Each site seems to have it's own look. Some offer various (free and for fee) custom services. Have fun... this could take you days! :)

Thanks to all who responded. Adela, this is quite the list and very much
appreciated. I spent the weekend looking at a bunch of sites - I had done
the Google search before posting is here. My eyes started to blur. So I
have a pretty good idea of what's out there. I was hoping to get a list of
who to use and who to stay away from. Your list is great. Is there a site
on your list that you've used in the past and really like?

Thanks again for taking the time to compile the list. Much appreciated.

I know what you mean Greg, never know from a google search if you are
getting respected sites or quick buck sites, that's why word of mouth still
works.

G

Greg

Exactly. I've just spent an hour on the PixelMill site that Adela gave me.
I like the fact that there are lots of downloadable tutorials on the site
and that each template comes with a set of requirements and step by step
instructions. For example good to know the design graphics of some of the
templates required Photoshop 7 to edit. Which I don't have. I'd rather not
have to go through the hassle of after the fact crisis management. Also,
I just sent their support department a email to test how fast I get a
response. It will be another measure of the site's viability. Losing $50
won't kill me, but spending days trying to get an answer always is the deal
breaker for me.

Greg,

You can almost tell the flakey ones just by looking at them :)

The ones that are linked together are the most well known group. I've used a couple in the past and have had no trouble with the ones in the "ring". And, yah you can definitely go blurry-eyed looking at all of them!

You can also check Microsoft's Office site...they have a few for free. They even have a few links to some that you may have already visited - and by going through MS's site they seem to offer a few templates for free that you'd otherwise pay for.

Download a free one if you can find one even remotely close to what you're looking for, then dissect it...you can learn a lot that way.

Great idea. I hadn't thought to do that.

Hi Adela,

You've been very helpful and I really appreciate it. Since deciding to do
this last week, I've been like a dog with a bone. The good news is that I
have a friend who is helping. I just bought a Template from PixilMill, got
my domain, and host setup and my friend has just set up the template for me
to play with. I'm currently waiting for my copy of FrontPage 2003 and
WS_FTP to arrive to do the editing and uploading.

Again, thanks for helping me to find the on ramp.

Greg

Greg, I've had experience with the first 5 (on the order I listed them). I
can't, of course, promise the same for you, but, for what's its worth...
I have found PixelMill to be slow on e-mail responses recently, but they
have been terrific when I've called them directly.
John Galt's Templates was good on e-mail when I was considering a customized
template. They have an outstanding refererence section. It's not easy to
find, so go to http://www.jgtemplates.com/learn/.
I'm currently working with a BAC template (bought from PixelMill). Other
than sometimes getting messages that some files can't open when I'm working,
there have been no problems. Despite the messages, the template works fine.
i3D Themes are very good on responding. They have a whole online system
set-up for you once you've bought a product. They also made good on their
offer of a free logo for the template I bought.
I bought a tempate form Classy Themes. It was very easy to work with.
Also, if you are looking for themes and not templates, try Theme-Pak:
http://www.themepak.com/default.asp. I bought loads of themes for the first
site FP site I built. When I was sick of looking at the site, I just bought
a new theme! It was almost like a hobby -- so much fun :)

Good luck.

If the host has or can install the FP extensions for your account, suggest that you do so, then DO
NOT use FTP to upload content.

Greg, you're very welcome. I've gotten so much generous help on this site over the last 2 weeks that I am glad I could offer something to someone. When I did my original site, I used to ask everyone I knew (and who could put up with me) to look at every new page every time I added one. Now, I just torture my husband :)

If you think of it, let me know when your site is up. I use a dummy e-mail address, so reply here, O.K.?

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean, only use WS_FTP to loadup the
content. Which I did last night. And FP to do the creating and editing?

Thanks,

Greg

No, he means if your host has FP extensions installed and available for your use...DON'T use 3rd party FTP - use the Publish method (http upload) built into FP.
