Frontpage problem - can anyone here help??

Mary

I'm a bit of a newbie to this and have had no luck in the Frontpage
forums so thought I'd try my luck here.....

I have made a web site on my desktop which works great. Most of the
pages use tables which have text or photos in the cells.

When I look at it on my laptop which has a smaller resolution all the
cells are re-sized and the photos too close together etc.

How can I fix the width of the cells so that they stay the same no
matter what resolution the screen is. I don't mind if a scroll bar is
needed on a low res screen.

I am using Frontpage 2002

Go back to those forums and keep trying.

This one is for discussing the XP OPERATING SYSTEM, now web authoring
software.

The reason you haven't had any luck in the FP newsgroup is because you just
posted there and didn't give anyone a chance to answer. You can't always
expect an answer in minutes.

Hi Mary,

A few issues. Frontpage is an awful program. I won't get into it other
than it creates horrible code bloat and sites may not display correctly
if a person is not using Internet Explorer, which a good percentage of
people today do use an alternate browser.

If you're going to use tables (which is the old way to do things), you
have to create your table to the lowest common denominator in screen
resolution used today. Since a lot of people now have larger monitors
and widescreens, there are still those out there using a much smaller
resolution. I would suggest making your table no wider than 780 pixels
wide (for 800x600 resolution), or at most 1000 (for 1024x768
resolution). Then make everything look the way you want it within those
parameters and it should display the same everywhere, as long as the
fonts you use are typical. You may have to also set absolute sizes for
fonts among other things, because if someone is using a larger font on
their system, it will mess up the formatting of your table also. Again,
this is a method that many frown on today, but if you want a consistent
look with tables, that is what you'll have to do.

Good luck,
