frontpage login problems...

Hello,

We have a frontpage enabled web site running on Windows
2003. We are using Frontpage 2000 client for publishing to
this web site. We are using username in UPN format viz.
(e-mail address removed) to logon to the site through frontpage
client

Now, here is what we observed

1. If we use the Frontpage 2000 client on Windows 2000, it
does not work. It again and again pops up authentication
box. If we enter sam account name viz. domain\user to
login, it works fine.

2. If we use the same Frontpage 2000 client on Windows
2003, it works fine. We are able to login using the UPN
name.

Can anybody please shade some light on this?

Thanks.

Apparently, FrontPage passes the username directly to an
authentication module that's part of Windows, and in the
case of Windows 2000, that module isn't expecting UPN
format.

There may be a specific fix for this, but if so, I'm not
aware of it. It wouldn't hurt to try Windows Update and
install everything it recommends.

Hello,

But the UPN name works fine, when the web site is running
on Windows 2000. In this case, I am able to login to the
site using UPN name through Fronpage 2000 client on
Windows 2000 server.

Also, when this problem happens, the IIS log shows an
empty username being passed

Well, something is obviously getting lost going from FP2000, to
Windows 2000, to Windows 2003 authenticating access to a Web site.

It seems likely this is related to the fact that Windows 2003 didn't
exist when FP2000 and Windows 2000 were written and tested, but I
can't be any more precise than that.

My suggestion would be to logon with domain\username, or to upgrade.
