Frontpage Issues on Vista Business

I have a client that is complaing about 2 wierd issues since getting the
VISTA workstations
1) If they open one of their sites in IE then select edit. Notepad opens and
nothing I do changes it. I confirmed that its the deafult editor for HTM
files but only Notepad opens
2) FP crashes when they try to edit a hyperlink. Again the weird thing is
that it only crashes on a remote site. Local sites(disk based files) work
fine.

Any clues out there?

Problem 2

Problem 1
I think this might be a file association problem (associated with "notepad"
rather than with Frontpage).

From Windows Explorer (whatever you call it in Vista) right click the HTML
files and "associate" it with Frontpage rather than notepad.
I think you can do that from within Frontpage also - something to do with
setting the default editor for HTML files to be the FP editor, so after
you've done that, it should launch FP with you do the "Edit With Frontpage"
thing in IE.

Although, I have been called a 'troll' for raising this issue for quite some
time, I am pleased to say that this problem has finally been resolved by
Microsoft.

There were two updates for Vista (MS Windows KB905866 and KB941651) on
10/10/2007 that ultimately did the trick. I have verified it many times
(editing on live server, creating a hyperlink) just to make sure I was not
dreaming and am glad to say that it worked every single time.

Though I am not 100% sure if the above two updates in fact fixed this
problem, I can say with full certainty that I checked it after installing
these two updates and it worked immediately.

I apologize for my previous rants but no one likes to be called a troll when
you know you are not.

I tried it... and it would appear the Stefan is... well... in a word... wrong.

I downloaded both KB patches and not only did they not fix the problem, they
both came back as "this patch does not apply to your system".

I will continue to hope that SP1 actually fixes the problem for all of us.

I don't know Todd, but mine is in fact fixed. I don't know how except the
day I downloaded and installed those patches my problem of creating links on
a live web vanished. Maybe I just got lucky (or Microsoft just got sick of
me complaining about it ;-))

My Vista is, like others' I assume, configured to download updates
automatically. On Oct. 10, it informed me of the new updates and as usual, I
let it download and install. Immediately I checked to see if that reolved
the problem and sure enough it worked like magic.

Just for the record, I am using Vista Ultimate if that makes any difference.

Well, it wasn't those updates that resolved my problem. However, the Office
SP3 (released on Oct 31 and installed this evening) has fixed the hyperlink
problem for me.

The Oct 10 patches listed below as "the fixes to this problem" were
automatically applied to my system (Vista Home Premium) on the 10th. But
nothing changed with regard to Frontpage hyperlink problems. It wasn't until
I installed the new Service Pack for Office 2003 (of which I only have FP
running) that the hyperlinking started to work again.

Frankly, I can't believe it, but am VERY happy to have FP working fully again.

I was listed on the "open ticket" at Microsoft to be notified when this
problem gets resolved. I am looking forward to receiving that notification
in the year's to come.
