Is FrontPage going bye-bye? I thought I heard a rumor that MS is no longer
going to support FrontPage... what is it going to replace it?

Thanks Steve... but reading this press release is like reading Greek...
which I do not understand or read... I have created personal webpages for
myself, friends and various dog clubs... FP2003 has been wonderful for people
like me... any comments on which of these new software(s) the home user is
going to be forced to choose from?

FP 2003 will be supported for a couple more years, and will continue to
function fine for your webs.

Expressions Web Designer will probably be more suitable for your needs if
you decide to upgrade.

Office SharePoint Designer 2007 and Microsoft Expression Web ---

if these are in beta or if some other programmer company other than
Microsoft reads this --

I want the Designer or Expressions software on my
web host server so I can keep my cheap dial up connection and log on to
my web page and Expressions from my home computer or the high speed
connection at the library and work on my web page... publish it and not
have
this "listing pages in Frontpage" take 10 mins 20 mins on a dial up
connection
and being impossible to publish with Frontpage from the Library as they
do
not even have Word as it's to expensive.... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

This would open a Universe of inventions for publishing our web pages.
And
when we change home computers we will not have to copy a cd of our web
burned in read only files and have to search this news group on how to
publish
our web on a new computer.... grin.

Frontpage and publishing software on your home PC belongs in the era of
gasoline cars.... We need to log on to our web host and find publishing
software
there --- and hit publish web. If anyone knows someone at Google turn
in this
suggestion as they could make another $ billion by letting all the web
host
install thier Designer or Expressions software on every web host who
want
in on this warp speed publishing software.

Lots of hosts have web publishing software on their servers already -
and the software has one thing in common: it is rubbish.
Server-client setups as you propose will not work on dial up - the
bandwidth is simply too small for effective software to work as you
would like it to. All the data still has to be read from the server
and downloaded to your machine. If you make the software complex as
well - hosting charges will rocket since the host servers will have
problems coping with the load.
The best way is to download the web onto your machine and edit the web
there, only publishing changes back to the server. If the web is
large, split it into subwebs so that only a small part (the section
you worked on) has to be published at a time.
