Frontpage 2003 Search index

G

Guest

I recently upgraded from FrontPage 2000 to Frontpage 2003, and also moved my
development site from my hard drive to a server with Frontpage server
extensions installed.

I have been using the standard Frontpage search functionality, without issue
until now. Before FTPing files to our live site on an external server, I
would re-calculate hyperlinks, generating an updated index file contained
within vti_txt\default.wti folder This no longer happens. In fact, the new
version of the site doesn't create the above folder at all.

However, when I test the site search on our Internal server, it seems to
work perfectly. The results interface is slightly different to previously
(it displays a shorter list and gives the option of "View next ten" etc.

The external site still runs the old search, and obviously uses the old
index (which I have been able to update)

The site is http://www.group100.com.au

Is this because FrontPage 2003 search works differently to previous
versions, or am I just doing something wrong? Is there something the host
needs to do at their end to make this work properly?

Please help!

If you want to use the FP search component, you must publish via http to a server that has the FP
extensions and not use FTP. If the remote server is Unix/Linux, then you are using the WAIS search
engine, if your internal server is Windows, then you are using Index Server.

Hi,
I have a similar problem... search works (index server - Server 2000
w/ext's) but when I go to generate reports in FP2002 I can't get anything on
"search strings". Any suggestions?

The FP report component has nothing to do with the FP search component.

Despite that, would you happen to know what would cause all reports but the
one showing "top search terms" to work? I've looked all over for settings
that might affect that one issue, to no avail. Thank you.

Are you talking about reports that relate to the FP site stats?

You say you are using FTP? You can't ftp to a site with the FP server
extensions, or the components won't work. You must http publish.

And, the feature you are using requires FP 2002 server extensions on the
host server, and the stats properly set up by the host, if they allow it,
then open the remote web in FP to view.

If you have FTP, the host will have to run a health check on the extensions,
or perhaps even reinstall them.

Tom,
I don't use FTP, although I think that "kris_t_e" does. It seems now I
shouldn't have jumped in here but perhaps started a new thread. My
apologies to "kris_t_e". All help with my problem is appreciated though.

Yes, you have confused the issue. You should not hijack a thread, but start
your own ;-)
