FrontPage 2002 hyperlinks and XP

J

Jon F.

I created a web site on my home computer using FrontPage
Express with no problems, then upgraded to FrontPage 2002
and a new computer with Windows XP (Internet Explorer
6.0) and Office 97.

After transferring all the files over to my new computer
I opened the web site up and discovered that about half
of the hyperlinks no longer worked. When clicked,
nothing would happen...no error messages...nothing.

I thought it could be a compatability issue with FP
Express and FP 2002 so I tried to reconstruct the web
site from scratch using FP 2002 but found that while
links that I created would show up as links and even open
up the correct web pages when [CTRL] + clicking the mouse
button, the links would not work in preview mode or when
in a separate browser.

Is this a FP 2002 problem...or something to do with my
version of Internet Explorer...or the fact that I'm using
FP 2002 with Office 97...or something else entirely..?

Any help / advice would be appreciated...after having no
problem with FP Express...I'm pulling my hair out trying
to figure out what is going on here.

Thanks in advance...

It's actually really hard to tell. The best way for us to tell would be to
see an actual example web page of the problem after moving to FP 2002.

Something to consider though just in case, FrontPage Express simply worked
with individual files and was really a half-cut version of FP 98. FrontPage
2002 uses webs to contain files. You'll need to make sure that your files
are in a FrontPage web before you start working with them. Otherwise you can
end up with all sorts of incorrect file links because FP won't create
relative file links unless the files are part of a web.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the reply Mark...I'll try and double check
that all the files are in the same web and play with it a
little more.

Gah even though it was rudimentary...I do miss FP Express
sometimes since I had gotten used to it like a well-worn
shoe. :D

Well I checked and all files are in the same web but
still having the same problem with some links not
working.

I think it might have something to do with XP and/or
possibly one of the many security upgrades that I have
installed on my machine since I first bought it because I
copied the files over to my laptop that is running
Windows 98 and all the links work fine.

Anyone know of any fixes that I can download that will
enable me to get Frontpage 2002 and any websites I create
to work properly?

It's very frustrating to have the latest operating system
and the latest Frontpage version and not be able to use
it. Feels like I wasted my money. :(

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Jon

All we can say is make sure you have installed all Windows Critical Patches and Service Pack for your OS, IE and MS Office

Stefan,

Would it make a difference if I am using Office 97 on my
computer that is running XP. Could the Office 97 be
causing the problems with Frontpage 2002 and my links not
working properly?

I hope not because I don't really have the financial
resources to go out and spend $300+ on Office XP. :(

Thanks...

Jon

Jon F..

This problem is getting more and more complicated... :(

I looked on the Microsoft site to get all the SP upgrades
for Frontpage 2002 to see if that would eliminate my link
problem, but could only find SP upgrades for Office XP as
a whole and not as a separate upgrade for FP 2002 only.

Since I'm using Office 97 I guess that leaves me out of
luck, unless someone happens to know of a site where I
can download just the SP upgrade for FP 2002 only?

Thanks again for everyone's help.
