Frontpage 2000 Upload Slow

W

wendy

Using FP2000, everytime I edit and save/upload a page, the
saving/uploading process takes up to 5 minutes. During
that time, FP would lock up and my arrow would turn into
the hourglass and no other changes can be made in FP.
However, the webpage I am editing would be updated and
refresh right away (as soon as I hit Save), but FP would
continue to save the changes for a good 5 minutes. The
site has about 500 pages.

Help? Thanks!

Sound like you have shared border or other functions assigned to your pages
that require updating.

The site has about 500 pages.

This is occurring because to detect which pages to upload,
FrontPage retrieves a full directory listing of the remote
site and compares it to a full directory listing of the
remote site.

In the short term, you can work around this by right-
clicking the file you saved, then choosing Publish
Selected files from the shortcut menu.

Long term, however, your best option is breaking your Web
into several subwebs. Each of the smaller subwebs will
then publish faster than the original, large Web took.

I am having a horrible time updating my sites too. It is SOOOO SLOW it makes me very frustrated. I don't know why, but it just started getting this way in about early September. I am about to give up on Front Page after 8 years...It is excrutiatingly slow to open my sites, and every little change I make it takes forever to save or upload. Why is this happening??? I have tried a T-1 and cable modem, 3 different computers...just don't know what's up here. My ISP is confused too. I even switched web hosters thinking it was their fault...but it wasn't

With FP and all other application closed, search for and delete all temp,
recycle bin, FP temp folder, and the hidden system *.web files. Then run a
scan disk and defrag.
