Front page frequent shutdowns....

H

Ham

I have just bought and installed FrontPage 2003 and am working on some
tutorial from the office web site. It has happened to me many times that
when i am working in the "Split View", some changes such as working with
tables or images causes an unhandled exception in the application, front
page says it will close and if you want restart! (Many times this has ruined
my long hours of work).
Unfortunately, i couldn't find any solution to this. My XP Pro has the
latest updates and totally virus free. FrontPage has no Add-in and is just
one day after its installation.
Please help me with.
Thanks

(PS: Is there an AutoSave option in this version of frontpage that i am not
aware of?)

That view is heavily IE and video card dependent / intensive
- see 3 & 4 below
Have you tried the usual repairs in the sequence below:
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
- in FP 2003 you need to look in the super hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) Run a Repair on IE
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )
4) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, MS Office and your Video card
(Windows Update and Office Update sites, plus your video card supplier site)
5) Open FP and Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins,
6) Open your FP Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks

If using Windows XP, the first thing I'd try would be using the System Restore
tool. Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools/System Restore.
