Mr. Smiley

My ISP www.hal-pc.org doesn't have Front Page extensions on it for the
reasons listed here : http://www.hal-pc.org/frontpage.html.
Would anybody like to comment on this. Are they being finicky? Any Sysops or
admins out there have experience with this? Oddly, when I 1st got a copy of
FP, I was told by my ISP then that it could only be run on NT servers.
Obviously, this was a fabrication, but now I have started to read the book
on FP.

If you want to use the FP extensions find another host, most of what is
written on that page refers is old comments, dating back to the FP97 and
FP98 extensions. There are plenty of host running Apache with the FP2000 or
FP2002 extensions without problems.

Changing hosts is out of the question for me at the moment. I use FP98,
would FP2000 and FP2002 extensions work with it?

As previously stated, regardless of the version, your provider must have the
extensions installed on THEIR end. It's really a shame that more isp's
don't support them, since FP is a great program. And having the extensions
on their server is NOT a big deal.

I had a god-awful experience with this when Comcast took over from @Home,
who had been my initial high-speed provider. fwiw, Comcast was/is
completely incompetent other than the fella who comes out and runs the lines
around yer house. Their tech support is disgraceful and even their level2
techs can't tell you how to upload a web page - apparently, many other isp's
are similar, just happy to collect their monthly fee and say "well, as long
as you have email and can access the net, that's all we really need to do".
I finally gave up on posting my web on their servers and switched to a new
provider who has proved outstanding (see my later post in this ng).

My reason for asking about the extensions FP2000 and 2002 was in the case of
looking for additional hosts. [ I already knew that the extensions had to be
on the server ].

If your question is will a host running the FP2000 or FP2002 SE support your FP98 client software
- the answer is maybe
If they are running a Windows server yes,
but on Unix servers the FP2002 SE no longer support FP98 (but the FP2000 SE support FP98)

IMHO also time to upgrade your FP98
