Front page express

John

I have just started to create a web page using Front Page Express v 2.0.2.
Will I find this limiting ? Should I be using some other software ? At the
moment the page is very simple. I'd like to use buttons for the selections
rather than underscored links. I'd also like to have lines with mixed
graphic blocks and text but I am not sure if FPE is up to the job

This is the simple page http://minimitter.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/

Thanks

for very simple sites, such as yours as it is now Frontpage express is fine;
Frontpage express is limited in that

1) Only has the basic features of frontpage (hence the name "express" after it
meaning like the full product but with limited functionality - similar idea to
Outlook Express - has everything he full Outlook has without the
calendar/scheduling functions and probably a few other things as well)..
2) Can't use frontpage extension features (I don't think) - someone can possibly
verify that
3) Advanced frontpage features not available e.g. databases and/or anything that
requires the frontpage extensions.

frontpage express is from the days of windows 98, so wouldn't really be supported
in terms of server extensions in any case, even if it could use them (it would
need FP98 extensions or earlier).

However if you want to improve on what you have, I suggest the full Frontpage
application.
It is an easy solution for web page developers - professional in the field or
not, it suits a range of developers from novice to pro.

If you have neither the time or patience to learn the nitty-gritty of HTML coding
then Frontpage is the better choice of the mainstream available products (the
other being things like Cold Fusion, or Dreamweaver or an Adobe product (can't
recall the name), which are more advanced and really aimed at the more
professional or experienced developer rather than the beginner/novice.

Anyway, it is worth getting hold of and learning if only for interest sake.

However you should be able to do what you want (i.e. buttons/images as links
rather than text). You can lay out your web pages with tables to intermix text,
graphics and images. I'm sure Frontpage express allows this much, if not then
get the full product (trial version is available, so you can d/load to try it and
see if it really does suit your needs.).

You are correct on point #2.

Would also point out it is simply a stripped down version of FP 97 editor.
Very limited, and has all the bugs quirks that have been corrected over the
years.
