Ok this may sound silly but is there a way to turn off any and all of front
page 2002 features that cause it to steer away from "normal" html coding.
Let me try to explain/. For instance I do not want it to place these meta's
in pages
<meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 5.0">
<meta name="ProgId" content="FrontPage.Editor.Document">
Nor do I want it to use auto link features, shared borders etc etc. I like
front page as a html editor and a ftp type program, but I want to have
complete control over what it does / doesn't do with it built in "special
features". If this sounds silly I apologize, but like I said I would love
it if I had more control over what it does. Any tips / suggestions welcomed.

As far as the "Meta tags" goes you can have them removed during
publishing...

Go to "Remote Web Site Properties" > Optimize HTML (tab) and check the boxes
for what you want removed during publishing... Generator & ProgID tags box
is at the bottom.

My mistake... I need to listen more closely...

But there is a good reason to upgrade to 2003

Disable everything under Tools | Page Options | Compatibility that you don't want to use and visit
http://www.jimcoaddins.com for a add-in to remove the generator and prodid tags.

Thomas,

Is that on a web-by-web basis or global?

At the risk of getting stoned in this forum...I am looking very seriously at
swapping to Dreamweaver. Inputs all?

There are folks that use both, the choice is your to make, as both can be used to build any type of
web site, just as notepad can be used.
