from ATI 7000 to 9600

I am going to finally upgrade to a 9600, probably thru eBay.
don't understand differences between XT, a standard and, SE
Doest the memory make much difference: 128 vs. 256 megs.
Looks like the 9600 w/ 256 is really a 9800.

Right:

9600 = 128bit memory
9600XT = 128bit memory & fast core
9600SE = 64bit memory - therefore crippled.

No - memory doesnt make that much of a difference - i went from a GeForce 3
Ti with 128mb of mem to a Radeon 9500 non-pro w/64mb - its faster.

And a 9600 is no way equal to a 9800

ATI has reduced the price on the 9800 Pro 128MB (make sure you don't pay the
same price for a used 9800 that the new 9800 Pro's are selling for), so look
at that card if you can afford it. Otherwise, I would suggest a 9600 Pro.

XT is the latest, uses a different manufacturing process for the chip that
allows higher clock speeds. SE is the low end, crippled in one way or
another.

Memory doesn't make much difference.

The 9600 with 256 is a 9600--the 9800 uses a different chip.

The XT and SE versions are clocked much slower. That's why they're cheaper.
And, NO, the 9600 /w 256 is NOT a 9800.

Why are you such a retard? The XT is the top of the Range ATI card you twat.
The SE isnt clocked slower at all - its just got a 64-bit memory interface.

****ing Retarded Troll...

I appreciate all the responses.

There is SOME misinformation, which is to be expected on a public forum.
This is not reason to use foul language. It's just a discussion over a video
card.

If you're angry, wait to post, or use product specs to make a point.

1 - why buy from ebay? Almost every store is selling the 9800Pro
for $200 - which is about the price of a 9600xt - but twice as fast.

2 - 9600 with 256 is REALLY.... a 9600 with 256mb. Its no faster
than a 9600 with 128mb.

Well, actually, if you go over to google groups and read davew's posting
history you'll understand the frustration that Kai expressed.
