"Friendly Names" in Outlook 2003

Hi,

Is there a way of setting Outlook 2003 to display full SMTP address instead of "Friendly Names" in the "from" field of received emails? Previously our Outlook 2000 installations always displayed SMTP addresses ([email protected]) but now we are running Outlook 2003 all the "from" addresses are showing up as the broadcasted "friendly name" (Surname Firstname).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Only by changing that field in the Contact Record. There is no global
setting that controls it.

open messages or replies should show Bob < (e-mail address removed) > format if the
sender isn't in your contacts (or possibly even if they are). You can't
control how it's disaplyed in the message list, the display name is always
used (and I thought this was true in all versions, although it's been ages
since I used ol2000).

It doesn't really defeat the antispam protection - in fact, it has nothing
to do with it - identifying "good" mail by the address is how we get so many
infected computers: "my friend Mary send me a file, that means it's ok to
open...". If the spam filter is set on high, there should be few spams left
in the inbox for users to look at.

Hi Russ,

Thanks for your response. This is occuring on all incoming emails whether
they are in the contact list or not, i.e. I could send one tomorrow from
(e-mail address removed) with a display name on that account as "Bob" and in Outlook
2003 the "from" is Bob. We would much prefer it to continue showing the
smtp address ([email protected]) so our users can immediately identify that it
is coming from a spammer or unknown source.

Surely there is an option to change this... it worked on Outlook 2000! Why
now do we have to put up with just the display name? It defeats the
purpose of all the "antispam" protection in Outlook 2003!

Thanks

Diane is right. There has never been an option to change the Display Name.
It's just that the format of the Display Name has been different in each
Outlook version.
