Hi

I've just done a fresh windows xp install and when it comes to boot up it
gives me a choice of two XP installations to choose from as if I have got
two versions of XP on my computer.

When I go to the second one it doesn't work. I am sure when I installed I
deleted all partitions and just let windows XP install naturally?

Any ideas how I can get rid of this choice?

Edit your Boot.ini file. Loacted c:\ usually. You may have to use the
option - not to hide files and system files.

Hi

Please see if the following article by Michael Stevens helps:

"I have two installations of XP on the same partition, how do I remove the
one I don't need?"

HI William

Is the "Boot.ini file" the file that is responsible for this "choice" of
systems.. And do you have any explanation as to why it is showing their is
two?
Originally I mistakenly had two systems loaded, but since then I went and
did a clean install and I thought I had deleted everything and done a
complete format.

So is this normal? Even after a fresh install can this still happen? I feel
reasonably confident there is not another windows system on my computer.

Thanks for your help William its much appreciated

You probably never refomatted your hard drive for the "fresh install", XP
seen there was another OS so XP tried to create a dual booting system.

Thanks William,

I read the instructions that you kindly provided, I have done that...so
there was one issue though.

How can you tell which line it refers to when you open up the boot.ini
document?

I am assuming that it is the same order eg given two booting choices you
have choice one then two and I am assuming that is the same in the file is
this correct?

Thanks again for all your help. (If you need any design work done don't
hesitate to let me know)

Those two paragraphs contradict each other. They can't both be
true.

Nevertheless, go to Start | Run and type

MSCONFIG

Then go to its BOOT.INI tab, and click "Check All Both Paths."
