What format does Windows XP use?
I have tried ico and png but it says no icons so I assume there is a way to get new new ones in...I just need to find out how?

You surely don't mean that.
Can you be specific about what icons you want to replace?
Have you tried converting .png to .ico?

why are pictures bad??? It get the point across.

Because some people have slow internet connections, and don't want to
spend the time downloading your attachments. Other people (in Europe,
for example) pay for their internet connection by the byte they
download, so if you cause them to download more, their cost goes up.

And attachments can conceal malware, so most of us won't open
attachments that come from a stranger anyway.
