While working in Explorer, I'd like to get quick access to folders I often
use. How can I place a folder icon - or something similar - in the left part
of Explorer, so this is possible?

Yes, easily done. You simply drag it there from the right pane.

Here's a trick I've used in that regard, not only in Explorer but in Outlook
as well. Place an "a" without the quotes at the beginning of the folder
name as in "a picture folder" or "a music folder." This places all such
folders near the top of an alphabetical list. Or, you might make a master
folder at the top of the list, simply call it "a folder" or some such thing
and make the other folders sub-folder (nested folders) of the top folder.

There is a tutorial included with Vista that tells you how to do that. I
just viewed it last night. Drag the folder from the right pane to the left
favorite links pane.
