Every time I try to use internet explorer or windows
explorer I get the 'has encountered problem and needs to
close' message within a few clicks. Any suggestions?
Have run virus scan and windows update and rebooted with
no luck.

That message can have countless causes, so you need to help us out with more
information. What were you doing on the computer before the problem first
started? Did you see any other messages or indications of trouble? If you
are unable to identify a cause, you're looking at a reinstall.

I haven't noticed anything else unusual. This happened a
while ago and we just kept rebooting the computer and it
eventually went away. What we were doing before the
problem started? Downloading music, which, my sister
claims she checked for viruses. I ran the AVG virus
scanner and it found nothing either.

You should have full time antivirus software installed and running on your
computer at all times. You also need protection from adware and spyware.

Install antivirus software now and make sure it starts when your computer
starts and runs in the background at all times.

Install an adware and spyware detector now and learn how to use it. Here is
one good example of this type of software: Ad-aware 6. Get it here:

When you get error messages, don't just click past them. Those messages are
telling you that your computer has a problem. You need to solve the problem.

You need to be very careful about what you download from the Internet, or
what you click on while you're on the Internet. You should apply common
sense and caution. Viruses and spyware don't advertise themselves.

If you are very certain that your computer is not affected by viruses,
trojans, worms, adware, spyware, etc. and can't identify any other cause for
your problems, then you're looking at a re-install.
