Frequent Crashes with XP

Aloha all,

I have a Windows XP Home OS system on my new PC. It has been having
eratic crashes since I can remember. It will perform fine for a day,
and then 3 times in a row, it'll crash. The only consistent thing
that I've been able to find about these crashes is the following three
events in the System Event log:

1- "The Microsoft TV/Video Connection service failed to start due to
the following error: The service cannot be started, either because it
is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."

2- "The 3Com BCAITDI DMI TDI service failed to start due to the
following error: The system cannot find the file specified."

3- "The 3Com DMI Agent service failed to start due to the following
error: The system cannot find the file specified."

It happens in that order on the event log, too. First, the Microsoft
TV/Video acts up and then the 3Com acts up.

The BSOD that I get is the:

IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS STOP 0xA (4,1c,0,804F...)

Now, I've read numerous microsoft KB articles and no satisfactory
results yet. I have opened up the box and reseeded my PCI card. Still
same results. I'm at a loss.

My system:

- Asus P4P800 deluxe Motherboard w/3Com Gigabit LAN
- ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro 128MB 8x AGP
- Creative SoundBlaster! Audigy ZS
- Lite-On CD/DVD-ROM drive 16x
- Plextor DVD-R 705A 8x
- Western Digital 120GB Hard drive
- 2 Kingston 512MB Ram sticks in alternating slots

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and rewarded!

Aloha

If this is a new multimedia box pre-loaded with a bunch of useless junk. Check out your systray in the lower right hand corner. Is it full of cute little icons, like ten or so

Then you have all sorts of things running which may conflict

That's the first thought

The second is straight hardware, like bad memory, loose connection, bum controller chips, etc

Try booting in "Safe Mode" with networking, play around, get on-line, and see if you crash. If not, start removing programs and try to get to a basic XP system without all the folderol bells and whistles. No AOL, no Messenger, no systray icons except the clock and the speaker control... basically just fiddle. You can't hurt the computer and XP is a solid system, you gotta try REAL hard to trash it...

Finally, return the damn thing and exchange it for a fresh one (in an unopened box...!!)
