freezes

when working on my pc it freezes every now and again,it starts itself again
after a few minutes.Could I have a virus that my anti virus or registry
programs are not picking up, apart from this problem my pc is fine.I have xp
home edition,avg,registry mechanic and i clean my pc regularly, any help
would appreciated

How fast is your cpu, how much memory is installed, and what are you doing
when it freezes?
 
jerry, my cpu, (i had to look it up as i am familiar with the lingo yet)
speed is 1693MHz and 512 memory and it dont matter what I am doing it just
stops as it did just now while im on here, thanks for any help.
