Sony CD Extreme (the one I use, most Nero-ish)
Iso recorder (only on XP and only with temporary image)
BurnAtOnce (only on the fly)

forgive my ignorance of terms as i had to teach myself to use burning
software.

but what exactly is on the fly? does that mean it wont check for errors?

and does burnatonce need any extra stuff to work?

On the fly means it copies directly from CD-ROM to CD-Writer, while
preferred method is to create a temporary image on hdd and then record from
hdd.

None of these programs have any requirements except ISORecorder which
requires Windows XP.

On the fly would mean it doesn't create an image file 1st. You would need
two CDROMS - one reader, and one writer. http://www.burnatonce.com/ is the
website. It does use other tools, but those are free. Not sure if it's all
included. It looks like it can in fact make image files, so you can drop
your source cd in the drive, and make and image, and then put a blank in
your cdr drive and burn from the image.

Me? I just use Nero, but it's not "free", though it did come with my burner.

Try BurnAtOnce.

http://www.burnatonce.com/

It copies directly disk-to-disk or makes an image if you wish. It's a small
program but deceptively feature-rich. It seems to work when nothing else
will.
