You can use Adobe reader to read and CutePDF Writer to create.

I've tried a few and not very lucky.
Pdf995 appeared to be spyware to some anti-virus software.
Some other freebies just bombed after installing.

I ended up buying a $20 version 3.0 full Acrobat on eBay. But now I'm
trying to figure out where to install is so it doesn't collide with
more advanced reader-only Acrobat.

Thanks, I was guessing PDF995 could be invasive. I'm using Jaws PDF
writer which is quite nice [not freeware, was freebee on magazine cover
CD].

Inconvenient but you might need a dual boot system, one specifically
for Acrobat 3.0

IIRC PDF995 is nagware. It tries to launch an ad page on the web browser every
time that it's used.

Yes. apparently if you pay the shareware fee that stops. Haven't used
it myself though, would be interesting to hear from someone who paid
for it as to what it's like.
