I use wordprocessor macros (buttons in toolbar) for that type operation.
but wrangling editpadlite's search&replace is good when I dont want to deal wiht
formatting. (editpad gives true WYSIWYG!)
and the semi-auto modes of editpad lite's search&replace is complex, but soon I got the
hang of it. very nice.
I wish it offered way to restrict search/replace to "selected text". Usually I copy the
block to a new file, S&R, then paste block back into originating file.

Try PsPad! Very nice, very powerful, and it does almost anything that
you might need to do.

You just cannot have too many good editors in your arsenal.

I also suggest Atlantis Nova for RTF:

There is the free Atlantis and another not free editor, select
Atlantis for another really nice editor.
Hey, REM,
I use Atlantis Nova for RTF also. Last week I tried sending something via
their
e-mail (in the program). It finally went but was dragging it's feet. I'm
running
XP SP1 and have Off97 on here...but IE will not allow Word97 to be the
html editor...not that I object...but I would like for AN to be that. Do
you have
any thoughts on that? I consider it ideal to have Atlantis Nova as the html
editor!
Of course bigWillie couldn't agree with that, I'm sure. TIA.

But Crap for viewing.

How is IrfanView insufficient in this use?

You go into the directory (thumbnail) view. Then you open one image
for viewing. But now there is no key for closing only the view window
in order to get back to the directory view. Pressing escape closes
both windows. Secondly, when viewing an image that doesn't fit into
the screen, you can't pan around with the cursor keys; this goes to
the next/previous image. Wanting these functions, I searched the
options several times but didn't find'em. This is the way of good ol'
ACDSee 2 which I've been using for years now.
If you know whether they exist and where, I'd apreciate a hint and
risk another look, thx.

Regarding IrfanView:

I don't believe there's a way to close only the viewer window, but pressing
Tab makes the thumbnail window active again.
Secondly, when viewing an image that doesn't fit into the screen, you
can't pan around with the cursor keys; this goes to the next/previous
image.

Perhaps you last used an older version of IrfanView. Current versions do
this.
If you know whether they exist and where, I'd apreciate a hint and
risk another look, thx.

Hope I helped.

Although I love Irfanview, good ol' ACDSee2 kills it with regards to
thumbnails for the very reason you mention. I often like browsing dirs
using thumbnail view as it allows me to easily find the one I am after.
In all other respects (IMHO) Irfanview kills the rest.
