hi all,
i dont want a antivirus, but a program that will scan the incoming mails for
viruses.
is there any such freeware program, which gives that functionality.
pls let know.

regards

Regardless of what "you" want, what you need is an antivirus program.

The alternative is to depend upon your ISP to scan everything for you. Ask
them if they have such a service.

hi,
i had a antivirus , but it is memory consuming. i was on avast, previously
avg. Both are good. But i was looking for something like a antivirus, but
just scan the emails, because that is the source from where i get most
viruses.
hence the need for such a program.
as far as my isp is concerned, they dont provide anything beyond the basic
service

You want an anti-virus product if you want your email scanned. AVG is
free for most users, good, and can be configured to only scan mail, if
you insist;

Then you WILL need an anti-virus program to scan your e-mails. You'll
have to make a choice: yes, install an anti-virus program or, no,
don't install an anti-virus program. Every program is memory
consuming, including your e-mail program. If your e-mail provider
does not include virus scanning (and you choose to rely on the
scanning performed by the e-mail provider), there are freebie e-mail
providers that DO provide virus scanning, like Yahoo Mail and Hotmail.

I'm afraid I will have to agree with the others; you should definitely be
running anti-virus software.

If the issue is memory usage and speed, get a nice light package like Sophos
or AVG. If that doesn't do it, perhaps you have too much loaded on your
system? Norton is definitely a resource hog, but you should be able to
comfortably have AV software running in the background without it causing you
trouble.
