Freeing embedded pictures from source files

Have built a couple of largish (35-40KB) Powerpoint
presentations for projection from my laptop. I have been
embedding, not linking, photos in jpg form from existing
files in my C drive into PPT presentation. Now whenever I
edit file tree in C drive, say with Windows Explorer, or if
I change the name of one of the root folders of the
original picture, the embedded picture in the PPT
presentation will not load, instead I get a blank screen
with a symbol in upper left corner.

The error is not consistent, with some pictures in edited
or even deleted files loading fine, others not. This is
driving me nuts! I am working with PP 2000 in a Millenium
Ed Windows on a Gateway/pentium celeron laptop. Have
loaded all most recent upgrades and patches to Office 2000.
Any advice anyone can offer would be most appreciated!

It certainly sounds as though the images are linked, not embedded.

says about your pictures; it'll tell you whether they're really linked or
embedded and whether the links are valid or not.

Michael,

Definately what Steve said. You pictures must be "linked" and not "embedded"
in the presentation.
You can prove this by renaming your folder back to what it was originally.


When you insert>picture>from file there is a little know "tick box" called
"link something". Un-tick it
