Freedom Suite

My cable broadband service offers "freedom suite" to its customers
(anit-virus, firewall, popup blocker)
http://www.freedom.net/

Can't find much recent information on this application one way or ther
other. I'm mostly interested in the anti-virus aspect. Anyone have
any experience with this product or know its reputation?

Thanks

All I know is that Freedom licenses its antivirus technology from FSI
.... it's the F-Prot scan engine. F-Prot is a mainstream av and its
author, Frisk, is highly regarded in the av field. The F-Prot engine
is quick and lightweight.

The downside is that F-Prot is often slow in reacting to provide
detection of certain kinds of malware which have become more
prevalent. Because of this, other av products have come more into
favor in recent years.

What Art says. Plus it is associated with Authentium. It is a reputable AV solution.

The funny part is that my cable company made a fuss about offering this
to me, but it appears to be free for home use. At least this is true
of the anti-virus portion of the suite. Maybe next they'll offer me
a no-cost-to-me version of Outlook Express to go with my Windows XP.

Actually, I was assuming I'd have to pay for a quality anti-virus
checker. Is it possible to find a quality anti-virus application
that's freeware or donation supported?

Well it is NOT a top performer but it is still very good AV software.

There are several brands of the Freedom/Authentium software that is used by ISPs. Mainly in
the UK.

An excellent AV that is free is AntiVir -- http://www.free-av.com/

To get better quality (and higher catch rates), pay for Kaspersky or NOD32.
