free way to erase hard drive?

I need to send in an RMA'd Maxtor drive and need to completely erase it. Any free

Aren't there still free programs around that not only erase hard drives, but also write over the entire surface about ten times so
nothing can be retrieved?

We use http://dban.sourceforge.net/ Boot-and-Nuke, you can have it do
Dod standards if you want.

go to the command prompt & type:del/? press enter
or type:ftype/? press enter. you may also have to
use your recovery console disk to get to your
system's partition in order to erase it.
