Free space on hard drive

I have an issue with windows vista ultimate. About 1 hours ago I had 25.1 GB
of free space on my primary hard drive. Within the last hour I have been
loosing about 100 MB of space every minute. I would hit the refresh button in
my computer, I can see the hard drives free space becoming smaller and
smaller. After it dropped to 21.3 GB, it seems to have stoped. That is almost
4 GB of space that has been filled on its own, because I have not downloaded
anything at all within this time frame. Is it possible that the OS is reading
the free space inaccurately? Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Any
help, or advice given, will be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

It is a fresh install. I haven't yet enabled hibernate, or created a restore
point. Today actually, the problem is the other way around. Last night I left
it at 23.1 GB, today it is actually climbing, not falling. It said 22.1 GB at
first, but after I refreshed, it now reads 22.2 and climbing. I am honestly
at a loss here. I haven't installed, or uninstalled anything at all. Please
let me know what you think, and thanks for the help Rick Rogers.

Don't forget file indexing. I'm not sure how big the indexes get, but for a
few
days after an install it indexes files for fast searches.
