download tried twice and found to be corrupt

error message is "...product.cab ...is corrupt"...

It *should* help you by learning that others *can* download
and install the book from the same link that you are having problems
with, so the fault is not with the file but with your network or
with your local hardware.

Sometimes there's intermittent problems.
Downloading at a different time might work for you.

thanks, I used the direct link and it did finally download correctly.

Unfortuantely, this is not so much a book on visual basic 2005, as it is a book on how to use visual studio 2005
 
The book is written for Visual Basic 2005.

That is not the Visual Basic language, but an IDE to develop
Visual Basic applications ( it's Visual Studio for VB.NET ).

You are thinking of VB.NET, which is the language.

For a good introduction to the Vusal Basic language,
