Is there any way of keeping a frame at the bottom of page 1, so it doesn't
move to page 2 when the text goes onto page 2?

A frame will always be anchored to a text paragraph. When that paragraph
moves, the frame will go with it.

Is there any way of anchoring it to a paragraph that is not immediately above
the frame (i.e. higher up on the page)?

Yes, provided the anchor is not locked, you can drag it to any paragraph on
the page (and set the position of the frame relative to the page instead of
the paragraph).

Thanks Suzanne - that fixed it!
