FPSE Form using .DAT file type getting FrontPage Error

I have a simple form that is targetted to save my data on a .DAT file type.
When I submit that form I am getting
FrontPage Error.
User: please report details to this site's webmaster.
Webmaster: please see the server's application event log for more details.

When I change the file type to .TXT, it submits the form successfully and is
inserting the information I submitted on this text file.

What do you think could have been the problem with .DAT file type?

The FrontPage Forms handler will save the file as a .xml, .htm. .txt or .csv
file. Why do you need it as a .dat file?
