FP2003 Not creating _vti_bin?

G

Golfrgirl

My server, godaddy.com, has informed me that the directory _vti_bin not being
created is an error on my end (FP). I have FP Extensions installed through
them, and uninstalled, reinstalled, etc....all this in attempts to get the
_vti_bin directory (and necessary files) in my root directory so that my
forms will work.

Can someone either tell me how to get this directory installed - they say I
need to reinstall my FP program.

TIA-

http://www.loudexpressions.com/2007/10/frontpage-is-running-slow might help
you out some if in fact it is Frontpage problem and not the server.

It has been over a year since I messed with FPSE unfortunately but I tried
to go back through some logs to see other issues.

To see if FPSE are installed properly, check www.example.com/_vti_inf.html
(replacing www.example.com with your domain name). Try to also sign onto the
server through FP (File - Open Web - http://www.example.com and then you can
go to Tools - Server) to fix FPSE if there is a problem.

Looks like fpse are NOT installed...typical for GoDaddy.

Well, we'll see what they say THIS time. I've tried telling that before and i
keep getting the run around!
Thanks for verifying this for me.

And still I don't find the _vti_bin directory in the file manager. I thought
proper installation of the FPSE on Godaddy's part would create this?

GoDaddy must allow FP's form handler to work, some host's don't allow it.
You have an AOL email address for the send to addr., some host will not
allow email form to another domain.
You're not saving the results anywhere...like to a csv file.

The _vti_bin folder is not in your website. It is a virtual folder
located (normally) on the server in the
program files\common files folder (on Windows servers).

The bad news is that GoDaddy do not allow FrontPage forms to send email
on Windows servers. They will (eventually) advise you to use their
gdform.asp page, (which has its own problems in setting up).
If you need to send email from the form you will have to look at server
side scripting (ASP, ASP.Net, PHP etc.) to process the form. GoDaddy
does supply the gdform.asp for this.

I use them with other clients and the forms work just fine. I've never had
any problems.

Here is a thought though - should this account be set-up for Linus instead
of Windows? Another I do is (with godaddy) and the forms work just fine.

Any thoughts?

I've never had problems with sending forms in this way with my other clients
who use Godaddy, but I'm thinking they are possibly set-up with Linus and not
Windows.

So, the question of the day is whether this is due to an error within my FP
program (not creating the _vti_bin) or if it is a godaddy issue. It sounds
like you are saying it's them and not me! Of course, godaddy says it's an
error with my FP.

Welp... the other day the extensions were not installed, now they are.

Next thing to ask them is why they don't allow the FP form handler to work
on a Windows server.

You will never see the _vti_bin in your website, because it will never
be there. _vti_bin is a virtual folder, which means it is physically
located outside your website.

Since I get a logon dialogue when attempting to edit your page, the
_vti_bin must exist and is working, since the logon dialogue comes from
_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.exe

As far as I know, Webs hosted on GoDaddy's Unix servers can send email
through the extensions, I know that those sites on Windows cannot.

GoDaddy's comment is typical of GoDaddy.
