Hi!
i'm working with FP2002, and whish to inster a EXCEL SPREADSHEET web
component on my site.
But when publishing it, and viewing it with other browsers, such as Firefox,
I get the following error message:

Missing: Microsoft Office Web Components
This page requires the Microsoft Office Web Components.
Click here to install Microsoft Office Web Components..
This page also requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 (SP-1) or higher.
Click here to install the latest Internet Explorer.

Is there a way to turn-around this issue?

Thanks,

You can't. When you embed an Excel spreadsheet directly in a web page like
this Excel uses the Office Web Components to do it. Those are ActiveX
controls and only viewable in an IE browser. You won't be able to run Excel
within another browser in this manner. You can export the spreadsheet to an
HTML page and that will work in all browsers, but you can't embed Excel and
have it work in anything other than IE.

Also, the Office Web Components require the viewing user to have a licensed
copy of the Office application installed on their system. The Office Web
Components aren't part of FP itself, but part of the Office Suite of
applications.

No, the user must use a Windows IE web browser and the MS Office Web Components must be installed on
the web server, as well.

You could upload the Excel file and then create a link to it, then as long as the users has Excel
installed they will be able to open the file.

thank you, Thomas.

What about FP2003 and Expressions Web? This issue will remain?

Yes. It has nothing to do with FP or EW. The process being discussed is IE
and MS proprietary. Not supported by other browsers.
