FP2000 Hover Buttons not Visible under Win2000+IE6+Q827850+Q832894

Today I did a Windows update, which included Q827850 and Q832894.
I'm not sure which one is the culprit, but I don't see hover buttons
in pages generated by FrontPage 2000 on three web sites I maintain --
instead, there's only a blank rectangle. The same is true for
FP's "Preview" tab for these pages.

My system is Win2000 SP4 + IE6; (6.0.2800.1106 + SP1 + Q827850 +
Q832894 + Q330994).

Can anyone else observe the same effect? See my home page in the
signature (well, I guess it's a good way to increase number of hits,
but I don't see any other means to duplicate the behaviour), or
www.dmsgroup.co.yu. -- in both sites there are supposed to be
3-4 hover buttons on left margin. Is there a workaround?

(All sites are set to "Trusted" on my computer)

Those are Java applets.

Understand that because of a court decision Microsoft will stop all Java
support after 30 SEP 04.

OK, I got it. However, what did Windows Update do to screw my Java
support (prematurely)?

Frankly, I don't know which version of Java VM I have/had on my
computer. I believe it was Microsoft's one. OK, Jview gives

Microsoft (R) Command-line Loader for Java Version 5.00.3810

Guess I'll have to redesign these hover buttons & re-upload
everything to provide access to everyone? Sigh, that's a major
PITA on Geocities...
