Foxpro, Doculex, dBase IV, ODBC - nothing works

Hello,

I have an Access97 database that has had no problem
linking to Doculex version 3 tables (uses Foxpro tables).
I'm don't know if anybody knows anything about Doculex,
but I don't think it matters. They upgraded to a version
5, and it is vague whether they use Foxpro 6 now or dBase
IV tables. The table structure appears to be mostly the
same and I can still open the tables in FoxPro so I'm
guessing it's still Foxpro.

The problem is that when I link to these tables of the new
Doculex using the FoxPro link option it will link, but
then if I try to open the link I get an "Invalid
Operation" error and I can't view the table. This usually
happens after I have packed and reindexed the table in
Doculex. The only way to get the table to open at this
point is to move the Foxpro CDX files out of the directory
with the DBF files and then relink.

So I tried dBase IV. If ever it does link it's terribly
slow, but more often I get "External table isn't in the
expected format" upon trying to link.

So I tried ODBC. The link works with ODBC, but there's
other problems. When I link to Doculex's Indices5.DBF
file and open the link, Access tells me the record is too
long, and puts #error# in all the fields. Also, if I link
to a table in one directory with a particular DSN, then
delete that link and link to another table in a different
directory with the same DSN, it opens the first link.
What's with that? Do I need multiple copies of the DSN
for every possible directory I may access?

What I would really like is if Access97 could still use
the FoxPro 2.5 link option for these new Doculex tables
which I think are really just FoxPro 6 tables. I just ran
a test creating a new table in FoxPro 6 and trying to open
it in Access. I get the "Invalid Operation" error. If I
delete the CDX file and relink, I can open the table.

Please help
