FoxIt PDF Reader, how to remove advertisement box in menu bar.

I downloaded the free FoxIt PDF Reader and like it a lot. I also
downloaded Adobe Reader 7 to try it out, and like it less. For one
thing, you *cannot* specify which directory is the default in
Adobe Reader. I know, it's nuts! This is a major program from a
big software publisher, and they don't have this little feature
that even the cheapest, crappiest software written by some college
guy in his basement has. But that's the way it is -- I checked in
the Adobe Reader information database to be certain about it.

So I'm going to use FoxIt instead. One problem with Foxit -- it
displays a little advertisement box (not an actual ad, a box to
click on to get an ad) in the righthand corner of the uppermost
menu bar each time the program is started. There is a menu check
item to get rid of this ad box, but each time you re-start the
program, it's back like a bad penny.

But I was playing around in the registry, and discovered a very
simple and safe way to get rid of it. I thought I'd post the info
for all other FoxIt users. Cause that's just the kind of guy I am.

Open the Windows XP program Registry Editor and go to
"HKEY_CURRENT-USER\Software\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader\Mainframe".
Look down the list until you find (near the top) "AdvertiseIndex"
and change the value from "10" to "0".

You can change it very simply just by right clicking on it and
choosing modify.

That's all there is to it. The little annoying color-changing ad
box on the menu bar disappears and never comes back. Enjoy.

Hello Al Smith,

Some people reported here that the ad goes away after unchecking the "show
advertisment" 4 times.
I tried it with version 2 beta of fox it and it worked for me....
However a reg file with that tweak would be useful to save time....

Great discovery... :)

The reg key value is already *8* on my system and the advert box never
appears.

Doesn't print here, had to go back to 1.3, which does print.

Nothing works for me. Using 2.0 beta 2. Oh well, the button is not annoying
to me anyway.

Wow, I didn't know about that. I did uncheck it several times, and
I think I may have done it more than four, but I'm not certain.
It's about the only annoying feature in the software, so I was
glad to find a way to get rid of it.

I've never used Foxit before, so I didn't know the ad box goes
away after a certain number of turn-offs. Live and learn.

I'm using version 1.3. Maybe the author eliminated this in version 2?
