How come my formula appears in the cell instead of the
value of the formula?
 
Cheryl,

1) You are entering a formula into a cell formatted for text. Format the
cell for General, then re-enter the formula

2) You are viewing formulas - use Tools | Options | View tab, uncheck
Formulas (under Window options).
