Formula won't run

I have type a simple formula in a cell like =text(A2,"0000") but instead
changing the numerical value to a text format, it accept as text as in the
cell it read as per the formula I typed in. Is there any function keys or an
options that may have disabling the formula? Please assist.
 
Make sure the cell is formatted as something other than Text (for
example, General) when you enter your formula.
