Formula to calulate wages

I have a hours in A1 (formatted [hh]:mm) and a rate in £ in A2. In A3 I have
A1*A2 to give total of wages. I have tried formatting in [hh]:mm and number
but cannot get it to work
any suggestions

Hi Mike
Works great. However the calculation does not work if hours are 24 or more.
Any suggestions
