Formula Question?

This formula works great! =Lookup
(9.99999999999999E+307,Sheet1!G:G) But...can someone
explain to me what the 9.99999999999999E+307 is for?
 
9.99999999999999E+307 is the maximum number XL handles. So LOOKUP() will
return the highest number less than that.
