formula query - please help

I have created a report in Excel 2003 which references values from 4 other
spreadsheets.

However, for some reason the cells within the report now only recognises one
spreadsheet. For example, when I type '=' into a cell and then open another
xls, it won't allow me to continue with the formula.

Also, the full directory of the other xls file is displayed in the formula
bar even though the other xls is open and sitting in the same folder.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes sir!

If you open multiple instances of XL (i.e. - Clicking on the Excel icon in
your Quick start menu or Start Menu), it will be treated as a separate
application.

To avoid this, open your file using the File/Open or the Open fodler icon
within Excel.

When you do this, you can continue formulas and files will show without
their path within your formulas.
