Formula Problem

I have several tabs (1, 2, 3) On tab 1 I type a formula =2!A5 and it works
to show a value - say 9 or A.

On later tabs and only some of the cells the result is the formula itself
(=2!A5) but other cells work fine. For example in a different cell =2!A6
works fine.

Ideas for the fix?
 
One possibility is that you entered the formula in a cell that was
formatted as Text. Try formatting the cell as General and reenter/edit
the formula.
 
Fomatting the cell that has the formula has no effect regardless of any
(text, number, %, etc.) formatting used.

Did you reenter the formula?

Text (even if it looks like a formula) won't be parsed by XL's input
parser if you change the number format.
