the suggested solution that sulprobil posted but it doesn't seem to giv
me what i need.

I need to know the codes that are non sequential. but the codes ar
random not starting at aaa001, aab etc - that was just an example
they are product codes and take the first three letters of the produc
and the numbers are in sequence - or should be... and this is what
need to find out - which codes have not been inputted into the exce
database.

I think the section "Extracting Values On One List And Not
Another" might be helpful. If you cannot generate all
legal codes you will at least have to have a list of them
to have something to compare to...

Maybe you even want a mix of both: Having a list of legal
codes (AAC, AFH, ...) and then generating their "running"
indices, i.e. AAC001..AAC007 and AFH009..AFH129, for
example.
